Overview

T&O Underground executed a series of trenchless HDD crossings under waterways, active highways, and railroad right-of-way for a fiber backbone extension project. Each crossing required detailed bore path planning, pilot bore, reaming, and conduit pullback — with full as-built documentation delivered on every crossing.

The Challenge

Sensitive crossing environments — waterways, active rail corridors, and high-traffic highways — carry significant regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements. Bore path accuracy, fluid management, and documentation standards are non-negotiable. A single deviation can trigger permit violations or costly remediation.

Our Approach

Our HDD team developed individual bore path plans for each crossing, accounting for depth requirements, soil conditions, and regulatory setbacks. Pilot bores were tracked with precision locating equipment. Fluid returns were managed and contained on every waterway crossing. As-built surveys were completed immediately following conduit pullback on each bore.

Results

All completed without incident
Environmental
Zero fluid releases on waterway crossings
Documentation
Full as-built on every bore
